2008 Rentokil Fell League Kicks off at St Johns
Its just 6 days until the 2008 Fell League springs into action at St Johns on New Years Day.
The St Johns Fell race is one of the most popular on the Manx fell running calender with usually a great turnout of competitors, a lot of which are new to the fells and wanting to start their year on a healthy note (or like most, just trying and recover from the night before!)
The race is held over a simple but testing course, which is great for newcomers, runners from
other disciplines and hardened fell runners. Starting in St Johns football club there is a quick half lap of the field and a 100m run down the road before crossing the “spectator popular” river and starting the climb up through Slieu Whallian Plantation. The race exits at the top of the trees and follows the main path to the summit of Slieu Whallian, touching the cairn at the top and following the same route back down.![]()
Refreshments and prize presentation are in the St Johns football club after the race. If you fancy taking part you will be most welcome, just take a look at the MFR race details here and last years coverage from manxathletics.com, or why not contact MFR for more information.
Although St Johns is one of the most popular fell races in the league it is certainly not the only one, with 10 other races plus the Manx Mountain Marathon being held throughout the year all over the island. The league will take you over some of the best hills and scenery the island has to offer as well as giving you some great racing and competition.
If you are interested in taking part in the 2008 Fell League or indeed competing in any other of the islands fell races just browse through the race pages of the MFR site or contact Manx Fell Runners directly

Just a reminder for all those planning to complete the Rentokil league in 2008 to get their names down for a marshaling stint. The response so far has been disappointingly poor. As it stands at the moment we do not even have enough to cover St Johns on New Years Day.
