Manx Fell Runners

There was a splendid turnout of almost 70 runners for the Supercards Sponsored St John’s Fell Race today. Conditions were damp but the going was good with some excellent performances throughout the field.

The race was won by Lloyd Taggart, who set a storming time and set a new record on the short 3 mile course, Simon Skillicorn was second and had a great race, comfortably ahead of the chasing pack and finishing 25 seconds under the previous course record set by him in 2006. Ian Gale, as always, descended like a freight train which had no brakes to finish in a strong third spot. It was good to see Richie Jamieson back on the Manx fells and he finished in fourth position, with Tom Cringle and Paul Renshaw just behind. Paul ran a great race climbing and descending strongly and if only for an unlucky New Years dip in the river on the way down would have had the 5th position.

The ladies race was won by Jackie Lee, who ran well on her first time over the St John’s course also setting a fine new course record. Cal Partington was second and kept Jackie close by on the climb to the summit, Rose Hooton raced strongly to wrap up the top three.

It was great to see a good show of 6 Juniors having a go at the tough St Johns course, well played to all that ran. Tom Kelly was top, finishing in an excellent 24th overall and showing some of his older competitors a clean set of heels. Rachael Franklin was second junior, running well just over a minute behind with Jake Nathan coming in 3rd place.
