There are now flags out at checkpoints 2, 3 & 4 for anyone intending to recce over the weekend.
Anyone who anticipates taking over three and a half hours to finish the race is requested to compete the early start time at 9am. Please note that Checkpoint 6 (Thie Keeil ruin) will close promptly at 13:05.
Is anyone else considering an early start? I am in two minds as to whether to start early or not. The obvious advantage of starting on time (at 10) is that you have someone to follow! (at least until they get out of sight in front!!!). I did a recce on Saturday from the foot of Cronk ny Arrey Laa (the first counter checkpoint), ending back on the summit of Cronk ny Arrey Laa - and that took me 3.5 hrs (although I did have a short-legged dog to drag through the long heather!). And I suspect I didn’t take the most efficient route. Anyway, if anyone is starting early, can you please post a reply here? Thanks!
Lewis glad to see you have been having a look at the course. Its the only way to learn them.
The early start is meant for those who usually finish in the back half of the field. The thinking behind it is that all runners will be closer together during the second half of the race as the fast boys catch the slower folk. This is good for safety reasons as everyone looks out for each other when tiredness is creeping in. And of course from the officials point of view all competitors should finish within a reasonable time span.
In short it is not available to everyone. Judging by your previous performances I would think you will have no bother finishing within the three hours thirty limit.
Thanks for the vote of confidence Richie! But the longer the distance, the worse I get! However, I think I will start at 10 anyway. Cheers!
