Wadsworth Trog
Conditions were good and far better than expected for the 3 Manx Fell Runners who traveled to the Hebden Bridge area on Saturday to take on the Full and Half Wadsworth Trog.
Tackling the full 20 mile race, also known as “The Beast” were Richard Sille and Tom Cringle. Allan Corrin, now living in the UK, had come down to take on the 9 mile Half Trog.
With little breeze and warm sunshine, the early fears of becoming a stat in the local Mountain Rescue books were soon alleviated. Racing got underway at 10am and after a short lap of the village started the climb up onto the moors and Checkpoint 1, High Brown Knoll. From then on it was 3 hours of peat hags, wet bogs and ankle snapping tussocks.
The race was won by Karl Grey in a new record time of 2hrs 38mins 15secs from former British and English fell champion Ian Holmes, with past Manx Mountain Marathon winner Paul Thompson looking in good form for this years race in third spot.
Tom ran a well paced race to finish strongly in 13th position and was pleased to step up to a full event after receiving endless stick for only completing the half MMM last year!
Richard also had an excellent race, running in close company with a number of Clayton vets and benefiting from there local route knowledge! He too paced it well to finish in 29th spot.
In the half event Allan Corrin ran well for 34th position in a time of 1hr 45min 45sec.

Well done guys on another fine performance off Island. Great to see Tom getting back to his old self again.
Fine performances by everyone in a very tough event. Great to see MFR members competing off-island, it can only help raise standards.
If anyone is interested in going across the wet bit for a race there will be a short get-together at the QB Hotel on Thursday 21st February at 7.00pm to see if a couple of trips can be organised. This is open to all fell runners irrespective of club or ability.
