New Arthur Jones a Success

Ladies Winner Jackie Lee with Dave Griffin just behindStyle Queue - Steve Partington, Rich Sille, Antony Bell-Scott and Rob HoldenThe conditions proved to be excellent, although a bit breezy, for the new Arthur Jones fell race held today. The 15 mile course and 4000ft of ascent proved testing, especially as the majority of the climbing is in the last third of the race, but all competitors raced it well.

With numerous route choices over the course, especially in the South Barrule area, positions throughout the field chopped and changed with no one completely sure who would be coming around the next corner.

Gareth EvansIt was good to see Lloyd Taggart over to take on the new course, he took the win in a debut record time. Second was Tom Cringle who after taking a quick line over South Barrule managed to stretch and hold a lead on Simon Skillicorn who wrapped up the top three.

The ladies winner was Jackie Lee also running strongly, there were some excellent performances throughout the field, Antony Bell-Scott, who is still only fairly new to the fells, had a great race as did Rob Sellors, another fell newcomer. A good race also by Rob Webb,!?!? who has made a strong return to the Manx Fells.

Many thanks, as always, to the Marshal’s, timekeepers and volunteers, without there support the racing would just not be possible.
