Tight Racing and Tough Conditions at North Barrule

Strong winds and driving rain greeted the 30 or so competitors who took on the North Barrule Fell race this evening.  There was tight racing all through the field with the top three reaching the summit together but Simon Skillicorn delivered a super fast descent to take the win from Tom Cringle only just holding off a fast approaching Nigel Armstrong who took the Vet 40 prize.  Ian Gale finished fourth from Ben Scott in fifth and Andy Watson in sixth.

First lady home was Sarah Curphey, finishing 19th overall ahead of Rose Hooton and Justine Bowen

  1. Great stuff everyone, must have been horrid on the top!

  2. had to stagger along the ridge with one eye shut to protect it from the rain that felt like pins!

  3. A man of your caliber should slice through that.

  4. Many thanks to all the marshals, officialls, photographers and spectators for enduring the dreadfull conditions. We runners had the easy bit last night! Special thanks to Juan who got two soakings, marking the course and collecting the gear back in again post race helped by Crowie.
The weather could not prevent a quite superb race with probably the highest quality field local athletics has seen this year. Tremendous stuff.
