Excellent Start to the 2009 Hill League
There was a great turnout of 48 runners at Glen Roy yesterday to take on the 1st round of the Isle of Man bank sponsored Winter Hill League.
Simon Skillicorn took a convincing victory running an excellent race but Ian Gale, as always, descended very well and took a well deserved second spot and the Vet 40 prize from Tom Cringle who wrapped up the top 3.
Top lady and under 18 was Rachael Franklin finishing a good 14th overall, Cal Partington was back on the fells and took the second position from Rosy Craine in third. First under 15 Junior was Frasier Veale who ran impressively over the tough course finishing 10th overall just ahead of the first Vet 50 Phil Caine.

Thank you to the organisers and marshalls. As usual it was a great race. Well done to everybody. There were a lot of very determined looking people approaching the finish line!!
Brilliant day. Great turnout considering all those that were missing: Rob Gillanders, Les Brown, Rose Hooton, Sarah Curphey etc. If they had all turned up it would have been a record entry !
Many thanks to everyone at Glen Roy Farm for their fantastic hospitality and to Doug and Mike for all their hard work.
Great start to the league.
Don`t forget the next round at Peel on November 7th includes the Isle of Man Bank Junior Fell Championships. Details soon.
