Time for Greeba
Don’t forget its the Greeba Fell race a week on Saturday 16th Jan. Race 2 in the Rentokil Sponsored Manx fell League is always a popular affair and one of the toughest on the Manx calendar taking in 9 miles of fine Manx Fells.
Start time is 1.30pm with signing on at Cronk Dhoo Campsite from 12.30pm, their will be an early start at 1.00pm for any runner who anticipates taking over 2 hours.
Further entry details are available here and course details here, check out the action from last year in the MFR Archives with pictures by Murray Lambden and if you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact Manx Fell Runners.
We still need two marshal slots to be filled for this race both at the Cronk Breck Gate, remember to complete the Manx Fell League you must have done at least one marshal stint. You can also nominate someone to do this on your behalf, to volunteer just take a look at the fell league marshals page.
The organisers have been advised that weather conditions for next Saturday could well be extreme. Because of this all competitors will be required to carry the following safety gear.
Waterproof top and bottoms, gloves, hat, whistle, compass and map. All competitors must also wear a long sleeved top. There will be a kit inspection at the start and finish.
If the weather conditions turn out to be as bad as expected the organisers may recommend that any in-experienced fell runners do not start.
Keep an eye here for updates throughout the week

I had a good helpfull recce today, I was able to follow peoples lines in the snow by following footsteps! I also had a funny moment running down Colden, I fell face first through a waist deep weird hollow snowdrift, trying to stand again was interesting trying to push up on the very soft snow! Can’t wait till the race, hope we still have the snow! The main tracks were actually better to run on being frozen with a soft thin layer on top.
Latest forecast for Saturday courtesy of Ade. Hopefully not going to be as bad as we were led to believe.
Firstly I can confirm that it slowly becomes milder later on Wednesday & thro’ Thursday / Friday, with a slow thaw on the hills. For Saturday temperatures at low levels should be 7 or 8C (say about 5C on Greeba top, but probably still with some frozen snow / ice surviving on the ground). However, early signs are that we may get a belt of rain during Saturday with some hill fog & a strong SSW or S’ly wind.
More news when we have it.
“extreme weather” … sounds perfect! Good luck everyone
