Top Racing at Greeba

Gary Ashe on his way to Slieu Ruy (Paul Sheard)Roger Moughtin Climbing Greeba (Sarah Cringle)After the very bad predicted forecasts conditions turned out to be excellent for the Greeba race with even a bit of sunshine!  The melting snow however had made the going very wet and muddy and tough underfoot but there was still an excellent field of runners taking on the challenge.

Lloyd Taggart continued his dominance of the manx fells taking the win in an excellent time of 1 hour 11 minutes (just a minute outside the course record!) he was just under 6 minutes clear of Tom Cringle in second with Nigel Armstrong once again running well wrapping up the top 3.

Leading lady was Jackie Lee who also continued her unbeaten form, she finished ahead of Rachel Holden who took the second ladies spot from Bridget Kaneen returning to the fells in third.

Thanks to all the marshals who braved the hill tops in still fairly chilly conditions and to Cronk Dhoo campsite for the use of there facilities.

  1. Just looking at the results. I’m sure Richie finished ahead of me.

  2. Your belly just nudged it!!

  3. I’m gutted that the snow had melted today; the water/fell run was tough going but as always enjoyable (afterwards!). Thanks to the marshals, who would have been there no matter what the weather! And a big thank you to the land owners for access and I would like to echo TomC’s thanks to Cronk Dhoo campsite for their hospitality and for letting us muddy their facilities afterwards.

  4. Well done to all.
I’m glad that the conditions turned out better than originally feared. The active weather front that gave us heavy rain & gales overnight was faster & moved away nicely at breakfast time. There wasn’t even a follow up trough in the mild & moderate SW’ly flow to bring any showers or strong gusts. By the way, that weather front slowed over southern England in the afternoon before waving back to clobber SW Britain with strong winds & heavy rain!

  5. Steven, you went past me on the climb up to the finish you s—e! Seriously, well done fella.
Would also like to thank all the officials, landowners for access and Linda and Dave for their hospitality. Not forgetting Mike and Ian for marking the course.
The build up to the race was far from easy from an organisers view with the severe weather conditions causing us some headaches. On the day there was no problem but the forecasts up until Friday were not very good. Unfortunately we have to watch our backs these days with the H&S brigade ready to pounce. Apologies if we put anyone off running but hopefully they will understand our predicament.
Thanks also to Ade for his advice.

  6. How many fell runners did it take to push me and my pick-up out of the mud? 9? 10? Thanks to all of you for your help! Call it a post-run work out.
A great afternoon’s racing; good turn out, great company, wonderful scenery and splendid organisation. Thanks to all the marshalls for their support and encouragement along the way.
