Fine Conditions for Bradda Recce
Report thanks to Steve Partington
Six runners lined up in glorious conditions at Bradda Glen for a training/racing run over the original Bradda course.
Despite a bit of dog-kicking (which nearly became owner-punching) and some sheep-worrying in the early stages, Lloyd and Simon were soon way out in front.
Behind them Steve was on his own, followed by the trio of Jackie, Richard and Guy.
As Simon took off more of his clothes (he started in shorts), Lloyd put the hammer down and drifted away on the climb of Cronk ny Arrey Laa. After the turn on South Barrule, he front two managed healthy negative splits - great running given the sloppy underfoot conditions.
Stopping to admire the view every 30secs climbing Fleshwick, Steve just squeaked a negative split. Rich ran all the way with Jackie (legs were OK but his ears were sore), and just behind, Guy always had them in sight.
Then it was back to Jackie and Lloyd’s for tea, toasties, chocolate and crisps in the garden. Like a kid’s party without any kids. What more could you want from a Saturday afternoon?
A brilliant run over a really tough route. Maybe in the future there may be a case for alternating the Bradda/Arthur Jones course?

2. Simon Skillicorn 2hrs 25mins
3. Steve Partington 2hrs 46mins

Cracking afternoon out and really good idea. It worked out to be just the right time to up the distance of the longer weekend run (in build up to MMM) and of course this route is ideal for getting a feel for the later stages of the Marathon. Cheers also to Jackie and Lloyd for the plan, their hospitality (and seemingly endless supply of goodies back at theirs!) and Jackie for her company on the way around (a welcome distraction from the miles and climbs!) maybe see some of you on Saturday morning………
