HistoryQueue at Cronk Y Vaare

The route from the Bungalow to Snaefell Mines, Clagh Ouyr, Snaefell and down to the Bungalow was devised by Tony Varley and is the only current Manx fell race which has not suffered a change of route. The first race, in 1983, was won by Keith Callister in 45m 24s and Anne Gomer was the first lady in 66m 03s.

Keith Callister won for a second time in 1984 improving the course record to 42m 51s and he was the first local finisher in 1985 when visiting athlete Bill Bedell improved the course record to 42m 09s. Anne Gomer improved the ladies record to 60m 04s

In 1986 the Mountain Road was blocked with snow beyond beyond Creg-ny-Baa. As a result the race was postponed and the runners organised their own race following the old route of the Creg-ny-Baa fell race to Snaefell and back the same way, which was won by Tony Varley. When the race was held a few weeks later Keith Callister won for the third time.

Tony Rowley won two years in a row breaking the course record in 1987 setting new figures of 40m 45s, which have never been broken.

Richie Stevenson won in 1989 and again in 1990. Steph Quirk won the ladies race in 1990 improving the ladies record to 51m 42s and won again in 1991.

Tony Rowley won the first of his four consecutive wins in 1992 which took his tally to six wins.

Steph Quirk won the first of her hat trick of wins in 1993 which took her tally to five wins. In 1996 Ian Watson won and Rose Hooton won the ladies race.

In 1997 Tony Rowley won for a record seventh time and Brenda walker improved the ladies record to 47m 59s, which is the current ladies record.

Dave Young won in 1998, the first time a veteran had won and Brenda Walker won the ladies race for a second time.
Phil Cain won in 1999 and Steph Maddrell (nee Quirk) won the ladies race for a record seventh time.

In 2001 Tony Okell scored the first of his hat trick of wins and Brenda Walker won for the third time.

Rose Hooton won the ladies race in 2002 and 2003 taking her tally to three wins
